The
purchase in 1985 of a 220-hectare property
situated between Lancefield and Kilmore on the
Great Dividing Range in Central Victoria saw the
beginnings of Mt William Winery.
Paddocks that once carried sheep and cattle now were cultivated and turned to growing acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These were soon to be followed by Cabernet Franc and most recently, Merlot. The sheep and Angus cattle have not disappeared and still play an important role in the general farming program, with the sheep doubling as organic weed controllers in the vineyard over winter.
Visitors to the winery may enjoy a relaxing and personalised time, the sales and tasting room - built from stone from the property - provides a cosy atmosphere and five acres of picturesque gardens are best enjoyed walking with a glass of wine in hand.
